Alska Backfire is the main character of Thal-Verscholen's side story, Fading Souls.

Personality

Depressed, paranoid and uneasy.

It doesn't take much to recognize Alska as a lost youngling, barely conscious of his own appearance or personality. He rarely talks with fervor, or drive.

Friendless, the only time he pokes his snout out of his home is to work at the mines, fight in Arena C-5 and spend hard earned money on booze and painkillers.

Skills & Abilities

For the lack of a better word, lacking.

Alska has never bothered to learn his element or even understanding it. To him, water is nothing more than a party trick; a show of force at best, a death sentence at worst.

Due to his malformed wings, he lacks the ability of flight, and has left the remains of his wings in total disarray. By Sunfall, they are starting to succumb to necrosis and rot away.

However, being a miner and an underground combatant, he is a strong and dangerous fighter when in the right setting. He is more at home at Arena C-5 than anywhere else, and provides great entertainment for those that watch him.

Quirks

Being mentally unwell, Alska suffers from something he calls "the Reason", a sort of voice he only hears. It seems to guide, reprimand, mock and comfort him. It started to speak after the Bloody Dawn.

Something else that propped up after the Bloody Dawn, is his "gift", which he calls His Miracle. Every time he goes to sleep, or falls unconscious, his dreams/nightmares are of people's last moments that he witnessed. Every night without fail, he will relive the last moments of a dying creature through their eyes. He has no control over His Miracle, and has no use for it, besides self-torment.

Backstory

Alska keeps his story to himself. But from what is known, he was born to Gridena Backfire to a unknown father. They both lived together in the Third District until Gridena's death. That is when he started working in the mines, and found an interest in underground fighting. Before Fading Souls, he got hurt badly enough for health crystals not to heal him fully, thus having him take a break until when he could fight again.
